Staying Engaged
Elected school boards are only as strong as the communities behind them. The vote matters, but so does every meeting attended, every question asked of a candidate, and every decision held up against what students actually need. Here are some ways to stay in the mix.
At the Board Level
Go Vote
All 21 CPS Board seats are elected. The first fully elected board takes office in January 2027, with elections held on a regular cycle after that.
Contact Your District’s Members
Find your district’s Board Member, attend office hours, and ask where they stand on issues that matter.
Join Board Meetings
Attending in person is the most direct way to see governance in action and make your voice heard through public comment.
At Your School
Join Your Local School Council
LSCs are elected bodies at every CPS school with real authority over budgets and principal hiring. Show up to a meeting, or run for a seat.
Join Your Community Action Council
CACs bring community members together to build a strategic plan for educational success in their area.
Bring Others In
Bring Young People to the Table
Mikva Challenge builds young people’s civic voice in the decisions that affect them.
